“When you look at the stars and the galaxy, you feel that you are not just from any particular piece of land, but from the solar system.”
– Kalpana Chawla, American Astronaut
HearMe tour guide systems are used to deliver multi-language tours beneath the starry night.
Nestled on an International Dark Sky Reserve, in the Mackenzie Basin of New Zealand’s South Island, is Tekapo Star Gazing, a tour company that offers a unique nightly stargazing experience from the renowned facilities of Tekapo Springs.
Located on Lake Tekapo, the only Dark Sky Reserve of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, (and one of only eight in the world), tour guides entertain and educate visitors in multiple languages as they peer through the lens of high-powered telescopes to view breathtaking constellations.
With telescopes pointed at some of the most exciting features of the southern skies, tour guides combine astronomy with storytelling to connect visitors to the remarkable history of the universe.
Tour guides, each with a HearMe transmitter and head-worn microphone, run a synchronized multilingual tour narration alongside the English tour. To listen to the language interpretation, guests wear headsets connected to wireless receivers. English and foreign language visitors experience the mythology and legends side by side, without distractions and disruptions.
The tours have garnered lots of great reviews, while slowly climbing the ranks on TripAdvisor.
“Just a few of the key phrases used to describe our tour experience: Mind-blowing, incredible, out of this world, once in a lifetime, breathtaking, unbeatable! People especially love our entertaining tour content and lying in the hot pools with the stars above.”
– Melanie Rae, Tekapo Star Gazing Administration Manager
