Isn’t it fun to exceed expectations? Every year we have with InfoComm’s AV Week. And this year (October 17-23, 2010) I hope will be a repeat with even more AV professionals getting involved. AV Week is really just an excuse to show pride in what you do every day. But it does force you out of your comfort zone. Because it’s all about educating others about the value of AV, talking to people unfamiliar with our industry, local officials, students, potential customers. And it’s also very rewarding. InfoComm members tell us they like having the spotlight on them for a change since they’re often behind-the-scenes. They tell us it creates good will and business opportunities.
InfoComm makes it easy to get involved in AV Week, so if you could make one resolution in the New Year, I encourage you to make a commitment to celebrate AV Week. It’s not until October 17-23, 2010. So all you really have to do is commit. Here’s how. Be the AV Week champion in your organization or assign an AV Week champion in your organization. Challenge them to create at least one AV Week activity. Have them visit www.AVWeek.org and read the Toolkit to see what some of the possibilities are. There are no-cost ideas and bigger ideas, so you don’t even need a budget to participate. Your champion can form a committee now and inspire them to get creative in a brainstorming meeting. But the regular meetings to solidify a plan can begin in July.
I’ve figured out what makes some people get involved with AV Week – it’s expressing fulfillment in what they do. And since every AV pro I know has a passion for AV, I think more of us can celebrate AV Week. So be a champion like the folks at Advanced Video Systems, AMX, Audio Video Systems, Biamp, Columbus State Community College, Crestron, Epson, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Kramer, Listen Technologies, rp Visual Solutions, Shure, SMART, Spinitar, University of Arkansas-Medical Sciences, Westminster College, Wrightson, Johnson, Haddon & Williams and Xerox Audio Visual Solutions. Add your organization’s name to the list and let’s surpass our expectations – once again in 2010.
